Dr Claydon is board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. She grew up in Santa Barbara, California the daughter of a high school teacher. She attended the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in physiologic science. Dr Claydon moved to Richmond, Virginia and received an MD from the Medical College of Virginia (MCV). During her time in Richmond she developed her interest in Women’s Health. She continued her training at UCLA Medical Center where she completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Following residency she was selected for a three-year fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. This specialized training is focused on both surgical and non-surgical treatment of pelvic floor disorders. She continued work in academics as faculty at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University for 5 years before She returned to Richmond in 2010 to enter private practice.
Now in private practice, she remains committed to teaching and to the promotion of women’s health through education, research and service. In addition, to providing continuing medical education activities for physicians and nurses, s he is an assistant clinical professor for the University of Virginia School of Medicine. In concert with UVA, she developed and directs a clerkship in Obstetrics and Gynecology for 3rd year medical students. Passionate about empowering women to actively participate in their own healthcare.she routinely hosts community talks for women about pelvic floor disorders such as urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. As a member of IOWD she traveled to Niger to work with women suffering from bladder and rectal fistulas.
She is honored to be a peer reviewer for several medical journals dedicated to women’s health and pelvic floor disorders. and she serves on multiple local and national committees dedicated to promoting medical quality. (link to CV?)
In her free time she enjoys hiking, cooking and spending time with her husband and golden retriever.
